Toronto FC is the overwhelming favorite to repeat in 2018 as Major League Soccer champions. And why not? The club lead the league in just about every category in 2017. The Canadian franchise defeated the Seattle Sounders FC 2-0 in the December final that capped off an impressive campaign that saw Toronto break the record for points in the regular season.
Toronto finished with the most wins (20) and points (69) to capture the Supporters’ Shield — which is awarded to the team with the league’s best record.
Toronto is listed at +350 to defend its title (odds provided by TopBet). Seattle is the second choice at +700, followed by Atlanta United FC and New York City FC at +1000. Houston Dynamo, Portland Timbers and Sporting Kansas City are next at +1200. These odds will change as the season progresses, depending on the performance of the team.
Jozy Altidore, who scored the first goal of the final against Seattle, Sebastian Giovinco and Michael Bradley are the foundation of the Toronto squad. Giovinco led the teaming in scoring with 16 goals, while Altidore had 15. Newcomer Victor Vazquez gives Toronto even more depth.
Seattle has played Toronto in the MLS Cup the past two seasons, winning the championship in 2016. Clint Dempsey scored 12 goals last season to lead the Sounders.
The 2018 season begins on the March 3-4 weekend and builds toward Decision Day on Oct. 28.
MLS fans will get another taste of the last two finals on May 9 when Seattle travels to Toronto for a regular-season match at BMO Field.

Toronto won the 11-team Eastern Conference by 12 points last season. Seattle and Portland tied for the lead in the tightly contested West.
With the addition of Los Angeles FC to the Western Conference, the league now stands at 23 teams. Each club will play 34 games. Teams will face each of their conference opponents (10 in the East, 11 in the West) twice during the season (with one game at home and one away).
Teams from the West will play one additional intra-conference game, while teams in the East will play two. All teams will face each non-conference opponent once.
Twelve teams — the top six from each conference — qualify for the playoffs. The all-star will be contested on Aug. 1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Where to Bet on Major League Soccer
The league was founded in 1993 when the U.S. failed to win a bid to host the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
There were 10 teams in 1996 in the first season of the MLS and franchises struggled badly in the first few years, playing in mostly empty American stadiums and losing millions of dollars.
Since then, MLS has expanded to 23 teams — 20 in the U.S. and three in Canada — and owners have built state-of-the-art stadiums. Today, average MLS attendance exceeds that of the NHL and NBA.
For some, cheering on their favorite team is just not enough. They want in on the action, too. Online sites like Bovada, TopBet and Betonline offer fans an array of betting lines for all the Major League Soccer teams.
