Vegas NHL: Philadelphia Flyers at New Jersey Devils Betting Lines Picks

Flyers, Devils Face Off For First Time This Season

Two all-stars will line up against each other when the Philadelphia Flyers make the short trip north to New Jersey to face the Devils this weekend.

The two Metropolitan Division rivals hook up for the first time this season on Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark. The Devils are favoured on the money line to beat the Flyers (odds provided by bovada.lv).

Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux and New Jersey’s Taylor Hall were selected earlier this week to play for the Metro division in the 2018 NHL All-Star Game at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay on Sunday, Jan. 28. It’s the fifth all-star appearance for Giroux and the third for Hall. Both are the leading scorers on their respective teams.

The Devils have lost five games in a row and sit third in their division at 22-11-8, just five points behind the Washington Capitals and first place. It’s the second time this season New Jersey has lost four or more consecutive games.

The Flyers have won three straight and are tied for sixth at 19-15-8. Every team in this division has a winning record, which makes it hard to surge in the standings. Philadelphia seems to be a team of streaks. The Flyers lost 10 straight in November before going on a six-game win streak.

Sean Couturier is the leading goal scorer for the Flyers, but Giroux has the most points. Couturier has 23 goals and 19 assists for 42 points. Giroux has 14 goals and 38 assists for 52 points. Wayne Simmonds is the only other player on the team with double-digits in goals. He has 14.

New Jersey ranks sixth in the league on the power play, while Philadelphia is 10th.

Hall is the leader in goals (15) and points (42) for the Devils. But he is also one of five scorers with double-digits in goals — Brian Gibbons (12), Miles Wood (11), Brian Boyle (11) and Jesper Bratt (10).

The Devils went 4-1 against the Flyers in 2016-17, and they won all three contests in Newark. Philadelphia is 8-7-4 on the road this season, while New Jersey is 12-5-3 at home.

The Devils have been over the totals betting line 10 times in their last 14 games. The Flyers have been over six times in their last nine.

If this rivalry follows the trend of last year, the Devils should snap their losing streak on home ice and beat the Flyers.
