NFL Week 14: Vikings, Eagles Best Teams To Back With This Bet
- Category :
Minnesota and Philadelphia not only lead their respective divisions, but they also lead the NFL in covering against the spread.
Gamblers have made money betting these teams week after week as the two NFC divisional leaders have beat the point spread in 75 per cent (9-3) of their games.
New England, New Orleans and the Los Angeles Rams are 8-4 against the spread this season.
On the other end of the betting dollar, Denver has covered in 18 per cent (2-9-1) of their games, which means wagering against the Broncos has also been a profitable strategy.
Cleveland (3-9), Arizona (3-8-1) and Tampa Bay (3-8-1) round out the bottom four.
**VGB’s Week 13 record against the spread: 6-10
Here are the Week 14 picks against the spread for all 16 games (odds provided by bovada.lv).
Saints Undefeated Against Division Rivals
New Orleans at Atlanta — The Saints (9-3) and Falcons (7-4) play Thursday in Atlanta and then in two weeks in New Orleans. The line has moved a lot since opening with New Orleans as a four-point favorite. It’s down to two, even though the Saints are 3-0 within their division and 7-2 against NFC opponents. The Falcons are 3-3 at home and swept the season series last year. Atlanta is 5-7 ATS, while New Orleans is 7-5.
VGB’s pick — New Orleans (-1.5), Under (52)
Packers Must Win To Remain In Playoff Hunt
Green Bay at Cleveland — If the Packers (6-6) want to keep the Cheeseheads happy, they have to win their last four games to reach the playoffs as a wild card team. Aaron Rodgers, out with a broken clavicle, is eligible to return next week if he’s cleared medically to play. A win against the Browns (0-12) isn’t a given with Brett Hundley behind center. Cleveland has lost by three points three times at home this season.
VGB’s pick — Green Bay (-3.5), Under (40.5)
Jags Have Allowed Fewest Points In League
Seattle at Jacksonville — If the Seahawks (8-4) play like they did Sunday night against the Eagles, there’s few teams that can beat them. The Jaguars (8-4) have a fantastic defense, but there’s huge concerns on the other side of the ball. It’s hard to trust Blake Bortles in the pocket. Jacksonville has allowed a league-low 178 points this season. Minnesota is the next closest at 204. The Jaguars are 7-5 ATS, while the Seahawks are 5-6-1.
VGB’s pick — Seattle (+3), Under (40)
49ers’ New QB Wins First Game As Starter
San Francisco at Houston — Jimmy Garoppolo is 1-0 as a starter with the 49ers (2-10). But they beat a bad news Bears team last week. This test will be much different in Houston, even though the Texans have lost five of their last six. Tom Savage continues to throw too many picks for the Texans, but he has been playing a little better of late. Houston is 3-3 both in record and against the spread at home.
VGB’s pick — Houston (-3), Under (43)
Bengals Play First Of Three Against NFC North
Chicago at Cincinnati — The Bengals (5-7) blew a 17-point lead against the Steelers on Monday night. Their next three games are all against NFC North teams, starting with the Bears (3-9). Chicago has scored more than 24 points once this year, so touchdowns seem hard to come by. This game also offers the lowest over/under total of the week, which means points will likely come at a premium. The Bengals are 7-5 ATS, the Bears 6-5-1.
VGB’s pick — Cincinnati (-6), Over (38)
Vikings Tied With Best Road Record In NFC
Minnesota at Carolina — The Vikings (10-2) and Case Keenum just seem to get better every week. The have won eight straight, are 8-1 in conference play and boast the best defense in the NFC. They’re also tied for the best NFC road record with the Rams at 5-1. The Panthers (8-4) are 3-2 at home and 4-4 in conference play. They are 1-1 against NFC North opponents, including an embarrassing 17-3 loss to the Bears.
VGB’s pick — Minnesota (-3), Over (41)
Buccaneers Are 2-6 Against NFC Opponents
Detroit at Tampa Bay — Coach Jim Caldwell says the playoffs are not out of reach for the Lions (6-6). But their season would end right here with a loss to the Bucs (4-8). Detroit QB Matthew Stafford is nursing a sore hand, which was stepped on in the team’s loss to Baltimore. If he doesn’t play, the Lions don’t stand a chance. The Bucs are just 2-6 against NFC teams and have lost two straight. Detroit is 5-6-1 ATS, while Tampa is 3-8-1.
VGB’s pick — No line due to Stafford injury.
Chiefs Wasted Perfect Start To Season
Oakland at Kansas City — The best team in the AFC West started the season 0-4, and it’s not either of these two teams. The Chargers are now favored to win this division as the Chiefs (6-6) have faltered badly after starting the schedule 5-0. They are a team in disarray. The Raiders (6-6) have been inconsistent all season, even though they have won three of their last four. They are 4-7-1 ATS, while the Chiefs are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games.
VGB’s pick — Oakland (+4), Under (47)
Colts Have Lost Six Of Their Last Seven
Indianapolis at Buffalo — The Bills (6-6) are normally a tough team to beat at home. But they need Tyrod Taylor, who is nursing a knee injury, to play. If Nathan Peterman gets the call against the Colts (3-9), the Bills have no hope. Peterman looks lost out there. Buffalo is 4-2 at home, while Indianapolis is 1-5 on the road. The Colts have lost three straight and six of their last seven. Buffalo is 6-5-1 ATS, while Indianapolis is 6-6.
VGB’s pick — No line due to Taylor injury.
Jets Favored For Second Time This Season
New York Jets at Denver — The Broncos (3-9) have become one of the worst teams in the NFL, losing eight in a row. They haven’t scored more than 23 points in a game since Week 2 and they are 2-9-1 against the spread. They got blown out last week by the lowly Dolphins. The Jets (5-7) seem to play every team tough. They are 5-4 against AFC opponents, but just 1-4 on the road. They are favored for only the second time this season.
VGB’s pick — New York Jets (-1), Under (41)
Chargers Have Won Six Of Their Last Eight
Washington at Los Angeles Chargers — The Chargers (6-6) are one of the hottest teams in the game today, winning six of their last eight. It’s also the fourth game in a row that L.A. has been favored. The banged-up Redskins (5-7) have lost five of their last seven and four of their last five on the road. The Chargers, who have the fifth-best pass rush in the league, should put a lot of pressure on Kirk Cousins. L.A. is 6-5-1 ATS, while Washington is 5-7.
VGB’s pick — Los Angeles Chargers (-6), Over (46)
Both Teams Have Losing ATS Records
Tennessee at Arizona — The Cardinals (5-7) beat the other AFC South leader when they played the Jaguars two weeks ago. Now, they meet the Titans (8-4), who are 3-3 on the road and own a -16 point differential. Arizona’s Chandler Jones is second in the league with 13 sacks. The Cardinals, 3-3 at home, have a -91 point differential. These two teams rank near the bottom against the spread. The Titans are 5-6-1, while the Cardinals are 3-8-1.
VGB’s pick — Arizona (+3), Over (44)
Cowboys Won Season Opener Against Giants
Dallas at New York Giants — The Giants (2-10) would like nothing better than to beat the Cowboys (6-6) and likely knock them out of the playoffs. These two longtime division rivals opened the season in Dallas where the Cowboys won 19-3. Dallas snapped a three-game losing streak last weekend with an easy win over Washington. The Giants have lost five of their last six. This is the first time the Cowboys have been favored in five weeks.
VGB’s pick — Dallas (-4), Over (41.5)
Top Draft Picks Square Off In NFC Contest
Philadelphia at Los Angeles Rams — The top two 2016 draft picks square off with a lot on the line. Carson Wentz and the Eagles (10-2) had their nine-game winning streak snapped last weekend. Now, they must beat Jared Goff and the Rams (9-3), who have secured their first winning season since 2003. The outcome of this game will go a long way into deciding home-field advantage in the NFC. The Eagles are 9-3 ATS. The Rams are 8-4.
VGB’s pick — Philadelphia (+2.5), Under (49.5)
Steelers Have Won Four Games By Field Goal
Baltimore at Pittsburgh — This just might be Pittsburgh’s year. They have won four games this season by a field goal and they had to rally to win three of them. The Steelers (10-2), who have won seven straight, are 4-0 against division rivals and 7-1 against AFC opponents. The Ravens (7-5) have won three straight and they have a better point differential than the Steelers. Pittsburgh is 6-6 ATS, Baltimore is 6-5-1.
VGB’s pick — Baltimore (+5), Over (43.5)
Patriots Tackle Dolphins Without Gronk
New England at Miami — The Patriots (10-2) beat the Dolphins (5-7) by 18 points two weeks ago at Gillette Stadium. Even on the road, the Patriots should be able to cover the spread. New England, which has won eight straight, will play this weekend without Rob Gronkowski. The star tight end was suspended a game without pay for a late hit. The Patriots are 8-4 against the spread, while the Dolphins are 4-6-2.
VGB’s pick — New England (-11.5), Over (47)
